Mavenlive Opens Silicon Valley Office

WINNIPEG, MANITOBA, CANADA – Prognition Corp., the makers of Mavenlive physical therapy software, recently opened an office in the Silicon Valley with the intent of attracting interest in the knowledge engine used in our exercise software.

Our satellite office opened in late January in the Plug and Play Tech Center, a technology incubator that houses close to 300 startup companies and has helped startups raise more than $750 million in venture funding since its creation in January 2006, according to the center’s website.

Chris Metcalfe a software engineer and vice president of technical development at Mavenlive, is working out of the satellite office to garner interest in the product, says Dr. Jay Winburn, Prognition’s president.

“The reason for opening the office there is to gain more exposure in an area that has a great deal to offer in terms of technology resources,” Winburn says. “We want to continue to improve our rehab exercise software technology, but we’re also hoping to make contact with people who can see the vision of the company, and perhaps introduce us to contacts who are interested in getting involved with this project and finding additional applications for its use, other than limiting it to the physiotherapy software field.”

Rather than seeking investments, Prognition is looking for strategic alliances- other larger software vendors we can integrate our platform into, Metcalfe says.

“We want to identify areas where we can add value to their product,” Metcalfe says. “Everything IT-related happens here in the Valley; the people you need to get in front of have their headquarters here, so being here creates a good opportunity to get those alliances formed.”

The long-term goal is to open a permanent office in the Silicon Valley for business development purposes.

When it comes to capitalizing on changes occurring in healthcare, Metcalfe says it feels as though Prognition and its exercise prescription software is “a bit ahead of the curve.”

“There are changes coming to health care, with the push for more electronic documentation,” Metcalfe says. “I think that just being located here now when there’s a big revolution going on in how healthcare is delivered is ideal for us. It’s a really good time for us to be in the Valley.”
